HardwareThermal ManagementSystem ConfigurationTechnical Research

Overview

This personal project involved building a custom desktop PC from component selection through assembly, configuration, and ongoing maintenance. The project required technical research, careful component compatibility planning, and hands-on skills in hardware integration and thermal management.

Component Selection

Hardware components including CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage were selected to meet specific performance needs within a defined budget. Research was conducted to understand compatibility (motherboard form factor, CPU socket, RAM speeds, GPU power requirements) and to balance performance across workloads. The selection process involved comparing benchmarks, reviews, and value propositions across different product tiers.

Assembly & Thermal Management

The physical assembly required careful handling of sensitive components, proper mounting of the CPU cooler, and installation of thermal management solutions. Cable routing was planned to optimize airflow and maintain a clean interior. The system is continuously maintained to ensure optimal conditions, including periodic thermal paste replacement and dust management.

Software Configuration

The operating system was installed and configured along with necessary drivers. BIOS settings were adjusted to personal performance preferences, including memory profiles (XMP/DOCP), fan curves, and power management. The configuration phase ensured the hardware performed as intended and was tuned for the intended use cases.
